Dimegan-D: Composition, Contraindications, Dosage, Uses, Precautions, Side Effects and Indications

Relieves the symptoms of seasonal allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes, itchy nose and throat.

Dimegan-D is composed of loratadine and phenylephrine. It is an antihistamine that is usually used to treat allergies.

Some of the most prescribed medications in this class include: Zyrtec; Allegra; Clarinex; Astelin.

Dimegan-D is a selective alpha agonist, which is used to increase blood pressure and topically as a nasal decongestant.

It is also used in the eye to dilate the pupil or to form indications of phenylephrine(Dimegan-D).

It works by reducing the swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages by blocking a substance in the body called histamine .

This helps decrease allergy symptoms.

Contraindication of Dimegan-D

  • Contraindicated in patients with increased blood pressure.
  • Incrise of cardiac frecuency.
  • Increase in eye pressure.
  • It should not be used with an MAO inhibitor (Monoamine Oxidase inhibitors).

Dosage of Dimegan-D

  • Nasal nasal congestion: as a 0.25-1% solution : instillate / spray 4 hours as needed.
  • Ophthalmic solution: usually 0.12%: Instile 1-2 drops of в ¤4 times / day for в ¤ ¤72 hours.

Use of Dimegan-D

  • It is presented as a tablet, a liquid or a strip that dissolves to be taken orally.
  • It also presents as eye drops and nasal solution, instilled on the affected area.

Precautions with Dimegan-D

Do not give products containing phenylephrine (Dimegan-D) to children under 4 years of age. It can cause serious side effects or cause death in children.

Do not use Phenylephrine (Dimegan-D) any longer, it can cause rebound congestion in prolonged or excessive use of nasal or eye drops.

Side effects of Dimegan-D

All medications have a portion of undesirable side effects.

These effects can be irritations too insignificant for the patient to notice.

However, the side effects of medications can be determined by several factors, such as the severity of the disease and the conditions associated with individual patients. One of the most important factors is the dose consumed.

The greater the amount taken by an individual, the greater the healing effect and the corresponding side effect.

All patients have different intensities of side effects.

Be sure to consult your health care provider immediately after noticing that an unusual side effect affects the consumption of Dimegan-D, consider:

  • Skin:  Urticaria, itching, rash, photosensitivity.
  • Heart:  High blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythm.
  • Central Nervous System:  Tremor, irritability, insomnia, weakness, nervousness, headache.
  • Eyes:  Blurred vision, stinging or burning sensation in the eye due to eye drops.
  • Respiratory:  Oppression in the chest and wheezing, difficulty breathing.

Call your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • Rapid or uneven heart rate.
  • Fainting.
  • Jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes).
  • Attacks (convulsions).
Less serious side effects may include:
  • Headache.
  • Nervousness.
  • Feeling tired or sleepy
  • Stomach ache.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Hoarseness with a sore throat.
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Blurry vision.
  • Nosebleed.
  • Acne.

Warning from Dimegan-D

Some medical conditions may interact with Dimegan D. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following situations apply to you: if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding if you are pregnant.

  • Take any prescription or over-the-counter medication, herbal preparation or dietary supplement if you are allergic to drugs, foods or other substances if you have kidney or liver problems.
  • Taking antihistamines in high doses may cause drowsiness.
  • DO NOT take more than the recommended dose without consulting your doctor.
  • Dimegan D can interfere with allergy skin tests.
  • If you have a skin test scheduled, talk to your doctor.

Interactions

Dimegan D was coadministered with therapeutic doses of erythromycin, cimetidine and ketoconazole in controlled clinical pharmacology studies in adult volunteers.

Although increased plasma concentrations (AUC 0-24 h) of phenylephrine were observed after the concomitant administration of Dimegan D with each of these drugs in normal volunteers (n = 24 in each study).

There were no clinically relevant changes in the loratadine safety profile , according to the evaluation of the electrocardiographic parameters.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • If you become pregnant, contact your doctor.
  • You will have to discuss the benefits and risks of using Dimegan D during pregnancy.
  • Dimegan D is transferred to breast milk.
  • If you are breast-feeding or are going to breast-feed while using Dimegan D, check with your doctor. Talk about any possible risk to your baby.
