It is a composition of drugs used to treat certain conditions or heart failure , thereby preventing or avoiding complications or risks that imply the deterioration of the quality of life or the death of the patient.
Composition
The Entresto is made up of:
- Sacubitril.
- Valsartan.
Sacubitril is in the family or group of neprilysin inhibitors , while Valsartan belongs to the family of angiotensin receptor blockers.
The union of these two components causes the blood vessels to relax to make the blood flow more easily so that the heart pumps the blood more efficiently to the body.
Entresto Administration
Before starting treatment, the patient must read the instructions or information provided in detail and clarify any doubts they may have with their doctor or pharmacist and follow the instructions for use in detail.
Entresto should be ingested orally with or without food, at least once or twice a day or as recommended by the treating physician. The amount of the dosage will depend on the severity of the condition.
The patient should take the drug at the same time every day to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment, because this allows the Entresto to prevail in the body for longer, otherwise it is prone to side effects.
If the patient misses a dose and the time for the next is approaching, the missed dose should be discontinued to avoid a harmful reaction to health.
Entresto cannot be taken with Captopril, Enalapril, or other inhibitors, because it can increase the chances of serious side effects.
If the patient is being treated with any of these, they should take Entresto after 36 hours and be under constant observation by a specialist doctor.
Side effects
The most common side effects generated by this drug are:
- Sudden dizziness
- Daze.
- Sporadic cough
This drug rarely causes allergic reactions, however the patient may present the following symptoms:
- Swelling in the throat, tongue, lips, and around the eyes.
- Wheezing when breathing
- Difficulty to swallow.
- Acceleration of the heartbeat
- Difficulty breathing.
- Redness of the neck and face.
If the patient presents the following serious symptoms, he should immediately contact his treating doctor:
- Changes in the amount of urine.
- Muscular weakness.
- Dark and foul urine.
- Blood in the stool.
- Slow heart rate
- Constant fainting
- Lack of appetite.
- Change in skin tone, with a pale or yellow tone.
- Elevation of body temperature.
- Chronic headache
- Chest pain.
- Stomach ache.
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain.
It is not common for Entresto to cause overdose symptoms, however, the patient should contact their doctor if they present:
- Hallucinations
- Disorientation.
- Excessive sweating
- Difficulty recognizing space and time.
- Cramps in the extremities of the body.
- Seizures
- Unjustified fainting.
- Shaking chills.
- Lack of appetite.
- Headache.
- Depression.
- Constant dizziness
- Sickness.
- Vomiting
- Cardiac arrhythmia.
- Elevation of body temperature.
Precautions
The patient should inform their doctor before starting treatment if they have suffered from diseases or conditions such as:
- Dehydration
- Kidney diseases.
- Liver diseases
The patient should limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages while being treated with this drug, otherwise they could increase the chances of suffering from side effects, such as dizziness.
While the affected person adapts to the dosage, he should avoid performing activities that require a lot of concentration, such as:
- Driving at night.
- Drive heavy machinery.
Because Entresto can cause momentary dizziness or disorientation, which could be a risk while performing certain physical or mental activities.
Women who are pregnant should avoid the use of this medicine because it could affect the development of the embryo or unborn.
In the case of patients who are breastfeeding, they should tell their doctor before starting treatment with Entresto, because its components can pass into breast milk and these in turn to the baby, which could be harmful to your health.
Entresto Storage
This medicine should be under room temperature, in a place that is free from moisture, heat and sunlight, therefore it should not be refrigerated.
It is recommended that it be stored in a place away from the reach of children and household pets, because its use without a medical prescription can cause harmful effects to health.
