It is a medicine used to treat high levels of parathyroid hormone or to treat or lower high levels of calcium in patients with parathyroid disease.
Administration of Cinacalcet
Before starting treatment with this medicine, the patient should read the leaflet or information inside the package and consult their doctor or pharmacist with any questions or concerns they may have.
The dosage should be ingested as indicated by the treating physician for the estimated time, with or without food.
Cinacalcet should not be chewed, minced or crushed, since there is a risk of losing part of the dose, which does not guarantee the effectiveness of the treatment.
If the patient forgets to take a dose, they should take it before the next dose is approaching, otherwise they should skip it. It is important not to take two or more doses at the same time, as this can increase the chances of side effects.

Side effects
This drug rarely causes serious side effects, however, the patient should tell their doctor if the treatment causes the following non-serious but uncomfortable symptoms:
- Sudden headache.
- Body weakness
- Constipation .
- Diarrhea.
- Poor appetite
- Stomach pain or belly pain.
- Symptoms similar to the common cold.
This medicine can cause mild symptoms of an allergy, such as:
- Rash on the extremities of the body.
- Hives or sudden itching
- Dry cough.
- A high-pitched whistle when breathing.
- Redness on the face and neck.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Swelling in the throat, tongue, or mouth.
- Swelling around or in the eyes
- Unusual hoarseness
- Pressure in the chest.
The patient should contact their doctor or seek medical attention if they have any of the following serious symptoms:
- Muscle spasms.
- Dizziness
- Fainting.
- Seizures
- Numbness or tingling in the extremities of the body.
- Headache.
- Difficulty focusing.
- Acceleration of the heartbeat
- Confusion.
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- Stomach ache.
- Dialysis access infection.
- Chest pain.
- Asthenia.
- Hypotension
- Hypertension.
- Anorexia.
- Sudden mood swings such as sudden depression.
If the patient has symptoms of an overdose, they should go to the nearest health center or hospital to get the help they need: Among the most common ailments are:
- Difficulty getting your bearings.
- Chronic headache
- Sudden disorientation.
- Excessive sweating
- Cardiac arrhythmia.
- Elevation of body temperature.
- Frequent fainting
- Sickness.
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Decay or apathy.
- Tingling in the extremities of the body.
Precautions
This medicine should not be given to children, because it can cause serious side effects, it can even be life threatening for the individual.
Cinacalcet can be harmful to the normal development of an embryo or fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, should inform their doctor before starting treatment.
It is not known if the components of this medicine pass into breast milk and whether or not they affect the baby, so the patient should inform her doctor if she is breastfeeding before ingesting Cinacalcet.
It is not recommended to mix Cinacalcet with alcoholic beverages, as this can decrease the effectiveness of the treatment and increase the chances of suffering from side effects.
Cinacalcet storage
The medicine should be stored in a dry space, free from humidity and from constant contact with sunlight.
It must remain in a space under room temperature, therefore it is not necessary to refrigerate it.
Cinacalcet cannot be within the reach of children or household pets, because its use without medical supervision can have consequences that threaten the life of the individual or suffer serious side effects.
If this happens, the affected person should be taken to the nearest medical health center, clinic and hospital so that they can provide the necessary care and determine the steps for an optimal and rapid recovery.
