Dicynone: Uses, Mechanism of Action, Pharmacology, Side Effects, Precautions, How to Use, Contraindications and Pregnancy

It is used for capillary hemorrhage, neonatal intraventricular hemorrhage, hematuria, epistaxis, secondary bleeding due to thrombocytopenia, and other conditions.

The Dicynone tablet contains Ethamsylate as an active ingredient. It works by improving the adhesiveness of platelets and restoring capillary resistance.

Detailed information regarding the uses, composition, dosage, side effects, and reviews of the Dicynone tablet is detailed below.

Uses of Dicynone tablet

Dicynone tablet is used in the treatment, control, prevention, and improvement of the following diseases, conditions, and symptoms:

  • Capillary bleeding
  • Hemorragia intraventricular neonatal.
  • Hematuria.
  • Epistaxis.
  • Secondary bleeding due to thrombocytopenia.

The Dicynone tablet may also be used for purposes not mentioned here.

Other types of Uses

  • In surgery: Prevention and treatment of previous or postoperative hemorrhages in all delicate operations and those that affect highly vascularized tissues: gynecology, obstetrics, urology, odontostomatology, ophthalmology, plastic and reconstructive surgery.
  • In internal medicine:  Prevention and treatment of capillary hemorrhages of any origin or location; hematuria, hematemesis, epistaxis, gingivorragia.
  • In gynecology:  Metrorrhagia, primary menorrhagia or related to the IUD in the absence of organic pathology.

Mechanism of Action and Pharmacology

When the etamsylate is administered, it is slowly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. After oral administration of 500 mg of ethamsilate, the maximum level in plasma, i.e., 151 μg / ml, is reached at four h, but bioavailability is unknown.

The binding speed to plasma proteins is approximately 95%. The plasma half-life is approximately 3.7 h. About 72% of the administered dose is excreted in the first 24 h in the urine, and the molecule is passed without changes.

Etamsylate crosses the placental barrier. Maternal and umbilical cord blood contains similar concentrations of etamsylate.

It is not known if etamsylate is excreted in breast milk.

It is unknown whether etamsylate’s pharmacokinetic properties are modified in patients suffering from impaired renal or hepatic function.

The Dicynone tablet improves the patient’s condition by performing the following functions:

  • Improvement of the adhesiveness of platelets and restoration of capillary resistance.
  • Ethamsato.

Keep in mind that this medication may be available in several strengths for each active ingredient mentioned above.

Side effects

Etamsylate is a synthetic anti-hemorrhagic and radioprotective drug that acts in the first step of hemostasis (endothelium-platelet interaction).

Improving the adhesiveness of platelets and restoring capillary resistance reduces bleeding time and blood loss.

Ethamsylate has no vasoconstrictive action and does not influence fibrinolysis or modify plasma coagulation factors.

The following is a list of possible side effects of using Dicynone Tablet.
